After extensive research, the overwhelming evidence supports aerosol transmission of COVID-19. Contact tracing shows that, when it comes to COVID-19, being outdoors is 20 times safer than being indoors, which argues that aerosol transmission is much more important than droplets; outdoors, there’s plenty of air in which aerosols can become diluted; not so indoors. Superspreading events occur almost exclusively in indoor locations and are driving the pandemic. These observations are easily explained by aerosols, and are very difficult or impossible to explain by droplets or fomites.

In the Netherlands, researchers identify a correlation between particulate pollution and COVID-19 cases, hospital admissions, and deaths. “What I was struck by was this really was a strong relationship,” coauthor Matthew Cole, a professor of environmental economics at the University of Birmingham in the UK, tells The Guardian.

A previous study in the United States found that just 1 µg/m3 more fine particulate matter in the air corresponded to 8 percent more COVID-19–related deaths. The new study found that in the Netherlands, for the same increase in fine particulates, the death rate was as much as 16 percent greater.

Removing VOCs with? Activated Carbon

The Lexi Smart Air Purifier includes an Activated Carbon Filter. An activated carbon filter removes VOCs through a process known as adsorption, not to be confused with absorption. During adsorption gases passing through an activated carbon filter are chemically bonded to the hollow surfaces inside it of the filter, trapping them permanently.

Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a particularly nasty VOC that even at very low levels can be quite harmful. When formaldehyde is present in the air at levels exceeding 0.1 ppm, some individuals may experience adverse effects such as watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes, nose, and throat; coughing; wheezing; nausea; and skin irritation. Some people are very sensitive to formaldehyde, whereas others have no reaction to the same level of exposure.

Chronic exposure to formaldehyde may also cause general damage to the central nervous system, such as increased prevalence of headache, depression, mood changes, insomnia, irritability, attention deficit, and impairment of dexterity, memory, and equilibrium. Long term exposure has also been shown to significantly increase your chance of ALS. It can also cause cancer, and has been linked to an increased risk of asthma and allergies in kids.
